Fashion and fun at the races

As I write this post, I’ve just watched Green Moon race home to a win in this year’s Melbourne Cup. I am sitting at my sister’s house in an outer suburb of the city, surrounded by family, and the grey heavens have opened in a heavy spring downpour, but despite the clouds everyone is still hyped up from cheering home their “pick” in the only horse race I know that comes with its very own Public Holiday.

Here in Australia we call it the race that stops a nation. The Cup has everyone breathless at race time on the first Tuesday in November, when 24 of the world’s finest horses thunder around the extra-long 3,200 meter track.

In Melbourne our family gathers for a barbeque and to watch the famous race on our television screen. This is something duplicated in many houses across the city and indeed, around the whole state. And just for this one day of the year, we all become “experts” at judging the horses, the jockeys, and of course, the track, to figure out who’s going to win!

For those lucky enough to attend the actual event at Flemington – the highlight of our spring racing carnival – it is not just about the horses, of course. It is equally about fun, fashion and fascinators. Especially the fascinators!

The first “Fashions on the Field” event was held back in 1962, as a PR initiative to encourage more women to attend the races. Since then, fashions at the spring racing carnival have captured the imagination of the public and are now firmly entrenched for all, not just for the ladies. The Melbourne Cup has become a spectator sport for fashion-watchers – and now even celebrity-spotters – as much as for the actual racing itself.

What does this have to do with sexy romance, you ask? Not much, I admit! But I thought it might be fun for a change to offer a little snapshot into a writer’s life outside the pages of her erotic books, on that one day of the year when the locals have an excuse to dress up in our finest.

Of course, I now have a story simmering in the back of my mind that will use as its backdrop all the color, vibrancy and cheeky yet elegant fun of the racetrack on Cup Day. Stay tuned!

Here’s an ADULT (18+) rated taste of APHRODITE CALLING:

Without sight she could only imagine what he would look like, the tip of his tongue sliding along her flesh that was already swollen with need, that wayward hair flopping down over his brow, his gaze intense, probably flecked with the shade of green that for some reason reminded her of the sea, looking back up her body as he teased around and over her mound. When the graze of something hard—presumably his teeth—nipped at her clitoris through the material she yelped, then pressed upward to enhance that exquisite pressure. Hot lips met her thrust and played with her, moistening the material. Lips, tongue, and teeth worked in unison to torment her core while his fingers slipped beneath her G and went exploring along her slit.

A gasp escaped as she felt one of his digits slide into her. The first person other than her surgeon or herself ever to breach her pussy. She didn’t have the creamy moistness of a biological woman, but somehow, with Himeros, it didn’t seem to matter. She rocked back and forth against his face, adjusting to the feel of having someone inside her, even if it was only his finger.

“Yes,” she managed on a shaky exhale of breath. “That feels fucking fantastic.”

He chuckled against her clit. “So tight, Gina. I look forward to entering you properly.”

She felt the words and the laugh as a welcome vibration and it escalated her senses into overdrive. She moaned. Having her cock sucked in the past had never felt like this.

Eat your way to a better orgasm!

I was cleaning out my fridge the other day – not very erotic, I agree! But I was using the time to think about a little plot issue in my latest erotic WIP, and as I removed the now rather wilted asparagus I was reminded of a post I wrote some time ago on food-related aphrodisiacs, and I’d like to share part of that post here:

Some foods, of course, are classically associated with love or sex, such as chocolate (which contains theobromine and helps produce feel-good endorphins in the brain), or strawberries (classed as an aphrodisiac since the times of ancient Rome). But what other sexy treats might be found in our own fridge or pantry?

That humble asparagus – no doubt in its less wilted form – is purported to help men reach orgasm more easily. Did you know that it was a custom in 19th century France for bridegrooms to be served asparagus before their wedding? Avocadoes are another food that are great for male sexuality – it was prized for its aphrodisiac qualities by the Aztecs, whose name for an avocado actually translates to “testicle”.

What about for us women, you ask? I can offer you basil, which is known to cure headaches (very useful, and I guess it tastes better than an aspirin!), and almonds, which apparently are great for increasing libido in women. Figs – one of my favorite fruits – were prized more highly than gold in ancient Greece due to their so-called “erotic” properties.

Saffron and ginseng are both reported to improve sexual performance, as do bananas (not because of their tantalizing shape, but because bananas contain the nutrients needed to boost sexual hormones in our system).

Nutmeg is another spice that apparently helps raise body temperature and has the added advantage of sweetening the breath of your loved one!

And of course, how could I forget caviar? From a nutritional point of view, it offers a source of protein that bodes well for energy levels, but from a romantic point of view, I think the symbolism of life and fertility, coupled with the delicious flavor and texture in the mouth, makes this one my aphrodisiac of choice.

So, do you really think it is possible to eat your way to a better orgasm? Are there any special foods you love? Any I haven’t mentioned here that you recommend? For a little inspiration, here is a scene involving chocolate body paint from my erotic romance, PANDORA’S GIFT:

 “Hmm.” She pretended to consider her options. “This canvas is nice and blank. Where should I start?” Her paint-laden index finger connected with his nipples. Like hard little pebbles against her cushioned fingertips, the feel of him sent a tremor right to her core. “Here?” She swirled across his ribs, down his abdomen, dipping into one of the shadowed areas that highlighted his impressive six-pack. “Or here?” She swept lower, into the tangle of hair that denoted the start of his manhood, loving the sound of the groan that escaped his lips. “Yes,” she said. “Definitely here.” She refreshed the chocolate on her fingers and curled her hand around the hard, hot center of him, stroking up toward the tip and back again.

“Ah, Pandora,” he whispered, the words coming out shaky and almost incoherent. “You’re a witch, baby, and you’ve got me enslaved.”

“I am a witch, Flint. Haven’t you figured that out yet?” She looked down, tightened her grip momentarily. “And this is one giant chocolate bar I’ve been itching to taste.”

She dropped to her knees and took him into her mouth, almost swooning at the elemental taste of Flint coated in chocolate. She felt his fingers twisting in her hair, clutching, pushing her deeper, encouraging the rhythm, heard his rumbling sigh of pleasure, then he was lifting her up and off him, grabbing her by the arms and depositing her firmly on the kitchen bench top.

“Oh!” She couldn’t help protesting. “That’s cold!”

He stood over her, eyes dark with desire, reaching for chocolate. “This’ll warm you up.”

She leaned back instinctively, spread her legs a little wider, and moaned as the body paint, warmed by his fingers, drizzled down the valley of her vulval lips, followed closely by his questing tongue. The twin sensations of hot and cold, the hard granite beneath her buttocks, the heat of his lips and tongue on her core, was like that knife edge between pleasure and pain that seemed to mark all their lovemaking. “I love it,” she said.

The phallic world of the ancient Greeks

The research for my erotic romance series, GODS OF LOVE, has taken me to some interesting places. So many ancient Greek gods, so many myths, so much lust and intrigue from which to weave a story or three.

My latest WIP in the series, SEX CLUB SECRETS, has led me on a merry dance, research-wise. From a virtual tour inside a modern-day NY sex club, to articles and posts about sex toys and their uses in the ancient world. Yep. A very merry dance indeed!

Did you know that the earliest known dildo was made of stone and dates back more than 30,000 years to the late Stone Age?

To the ancient Greeks, and therefore to the gods who populate my GODS OF LOVE novellas, the penis was a symbol of fertility, even more so than a woman’s womb. In one simplified version of Greek mythology, the male god Zeus gave birth to the Olympian gods. Any wonder then, that the humble dildo, often made of leather or wood, was a popular toy for both men and women?

Called an olisbo, these phallic shaped objects feature regularly in the art of the ancient Greeks, which often show a man using an olisbo to pleasure a woman, or a woman using one to pleasure herself. Feminists have suggested that the dildo featured so prominently because the ancient Greek culture of penis worship could not conceive of sex without a phallus being present in some way.

Incidentally, olive oil, so common today in our kitchens and restaurants, doubled back then as a pretty effective lube!

This mindset of phallus worship has pervaded my GODS OF LOVE stories thus far, and will continue for now in SEX CLUB SECRETS, an erotic M/M/F novella featuring Ella, her best friend Kade, and their meeting with Anteros, the ancient god of unrequited love and one of the erotes (aspects of Eros).

This is the third instalment in the series that began in PLATINUM PASSION with Pothos, Jake and Jeannie, followed by the recently released transsexual romance, APHRODITE CALLING.

Here is a short Adult-rated snippet from APHRODITE CALLING (GODS OF LOVE #2) that illustrates this ongoing celebration of the male sex organ:

His torso was everything she had already known it would be from her brief exploration of his body a few minutes earlier. Chiseled muscle and smooth caramel skin, the nipples small and hard like decorative brown pebbles in a chest so magnificent she’d never seen one like it before outside of a cinema.

“Whoa.” She scooted onto her elbows, then sat up fully to watch as he removed the rest of his clothing. “So, you work out how many hours a day?”

He was facing slightly away from her, sliding off his underwear, revealing a tight butt and strong thigh muscles that flexed as he bent then straightened. He turned his head to stare at her over his left shoulder and her breath caught at the look of sheer desire in his eyes. He does look like a god, she thought. A sex god. How the hell did I get so lucky?

“I don’t need to work out, Gina. I am a god of love. I get all the exercise I need in other ways.”

There was no mistaking what he meant. The fire from his gaze suffused her body. He turned to face her fully, then, and the breath she was holding escaped in a gasp borne of panic and craving. He was enormous; there was no other word for it. The cock jutted out and up, fully erect. His balls beneath were large as well, but pulled up tightly near his body. Clearly he was almost ready to release himself. She remembered what that felt like.

No wonder he’s breathing so hard.

She focused on the network of veins beneath the darkened flesh and the glistening drop of pre-cum crowning his cock. She wanted to lean over and take him into her mouth, taste the juice of this gorgeous Adonis and suck him into abandon. The musky smell of impending sex surrounded her.

But the panic that edged her need refused to go away. There was no way she’d be able to take him inside her. He was just too big. He’d rip apart all the good work her surgeon had done. And yet…he looked just as she imagined a god of love might look. So tempting. So incredibly, fucking hot. So exactly what she needed to really make herself feel like a woman.

“I want to taste your cock, Himeros.” Maybe he’d come in her mouth and she wouldn’t have to take him into her pussy. She wanted to, though. Oh, lord, how she wanted to feel Himeros deep inside her body; his rock-hard dick sheathed tightly in her vagina. A man inside her properly for the very first time.

Now here’s a little Adult-rated snippet from the first novella in the series, PLATINUM PASSION:

She tried reaching out to Jake as she saw the tell-tale signs of fluid on his cock shining in the moonlight, but was pinned too effectively beneath Pothos. He was so close to coming and she wanted him inside her.

She wanted both of them sheathed inside her.

Pothos saw what she was striving for. “Come, Jake,” he said. “Join us.”

He rolled to the side, stilled impaled inside Jeannie and taking her with him, and then she felt her husband behind her, the juicy head of his cock pressing into her rear.

“Okay?” Jake’s voice was hoarse and she knew what he was really asking. This was something she’d never let him do before, and she bit her lip. Could she do this? Could she take both of them at once? Would it hurt?

“Yes,” she sobbed. “Do it, Jakey.”

And he did, gliding into her with an ease she wasn’t expecting, so slick with pre-cum that it made his entry relatively painless.

Pothos groaned, possibly at the pressure of Jake’s entry tightening her vaginal passage around him. She was so full of man she was afraid she might burst. Then they both began to drive into her body, first one, then the other, tag teaming, separated only by a thin sheath of her inner flesh, and the world as she knew it splintered around her.

When romance and real life collide

Marriage proposalRight now I’m on my honeymoon, and hopefully relaxing on a tropical beach in far north Queensland – and yes, for those who’ve read PLATINUM PASSION, it is that beach! It was my turn to post at Sexy Romance this week, but as I’m far from a computer, I thought I’d leave you with an article I wrote for my own blog 18 months ago, about our marriage proposal:

This post equally could have been titled, “How the romance author got a lesson in romance”.

I consider myself a realist. I write about romance and the bigger-than-real-life heroes who sweep my heroines off their feet and into the best damn relationship of their lives because, for me, that is escapism from real life. Not a reflection of it.

But romance and real life are not mutually exclusive, and I, of all people, should have remembered that. So what does happen to someone like me when your own imperfect real life hero (you know, the one who snores REALLY LOUDLY, or the one who changes the TV channel 25 times a minute, or the one who walks over your just mopped floor with muddy shoes – and doesn’t even notice what he’s done!) bowls you over with so much romance that the situation might well have come straight from the pages of a romance novel?

You get speechless, is what happens! Me, a writer, lost for words? Yep. And I almost ruined the moment.

He wanted to go into town for the weekend. Right before Christmas. Are you joking? I kept asking. There’s too much to do.

Nope. He wasn’t joking.

He booked us in to a five star hotel – a room on the 23rd floor with the most magnificent panoramic views of the city. From the Melbourne Cricket Ground, up the winding Yarra River to the Arts Centre spire, and beyond, to the bay sparkling in the summer sun. It took my breath away. But that was only the beginning.

Melbourne city viewsHe whisked me off on a riverboat cruise, from Southbank over to Williamstown and back, then to Collins Street to buy me a fancy dress, then off to a French restaurant for dinner (wearing the fancy new dress!). I kept grabbing at his hand all the time – why did he keep reaching into his pocket instead of entwining his fingers in mine? Why did he seem so nervous?

I discovered why when we were finally back in the room with the city lights spread out before us in all their Christmas glory, and he got down on one knee and pulled a ring out of the aforementioned pocket. He proposed in such a romantic way, and with such amazing views as a floor to ceiling backdrop, that I became speechless. Literally. I was so shocked I couldn’t speak for five minutes.

His smile faltered towards the end, and he finally asked, “Well? Is it a yes?”

Yes! Of course it was a yes! He brought all the romance to the moment that I could possibly wish for or imagine, and I, the romance author, brought nothing but silence and big, goggly eyes.

But I’ve tried to make up for it since then, and hopefully he knows how much I appreciate the whole experience, and that for me his proposal will be one of “those” moments that are remembered always.

I love the romance genre, not least because the possibility of romance and real life colliding is always there in the back of my mind. For me, it is about living in hope that one day, such happiness could possibly be mine. I have been reminded in the most wonderful way that being a realist and being a romantic can, indeed, go hand in hand. And when real life and romance do collide… let the fireworks really begin. :)

A Brave New Woman: Aphrodite Calling

A brave new woman – that’s an apt description of the heroine in Jennifer Lynne’s new erotic novella, Aprodite Calling. Before I read the book, I was not sure if I’d like this transsexual woman, but as soon as I met Gina, I couldn’t help but like her. She’s strong and brave, and fragile and vulnerable, all at the same time. She’s one-of-a-kind, and yet she’s just like every one of us.

And then there’s her hunky hero. If you thought his brother was hot in Platinum Passion, look out for Himeros, he’s even hotter! This series is about the Greek gods of love, and each of them is a sexy blend of human appetites and god-like powers. Sort of super-heroes of sexuality. And of course each one has the body of, well, a Greek god!

Now how do these two fit together? Amazingly well actually–their bodies fit together as perfectly as their needs. She fills a need in him that no one else has even seen before. And he touches her in a new way, bringing her to heights she’d never dreamed of.

This story is sexy and erotic, romantic, and surprisingly sweet. In the end, it is the author who is the brave woman, giving us a new story that will stay with us long after the heat of the moment dissipates, because these two characters will reach in and touch your heart.

What makes a wedding romantic?

The wedding countdown has begun! Just over four weeks till my big day, and with the second in my GODS OF LOVE series, APHRODITE CALLING, released two weeks ago, I’m only now taking time to think about the wedding. Quite frankly, I’m trying not to panic at the length of the “to-do” list!

So tell me…do I really have to feed a cat from my left shoe a week before the wedding to ensure good luck in our marriage?

Do we really have to say our vows when the big hand on the clock is moving upwards rather than down?

How about making sure every single woman at the event goes home with a piece of wedding cake to tuck under her pillow (and dream of her perfect partner)…or finding a spider tucked into the wedding gown? Huh? I hate spiders!

Apparently these customs are designed to bring good luck in our union!

I’d like to know why weddings are so fraught with tension. Why they are not always full of the romance that is contained in the pages of the stories we Sexy Romance authors write. Hmm. Well, I guess real life is a tad harder to deal with than the idea of meeting and making love with a Greek god or two. Or three.

Being a romance author, I’m naturally inclined to think about the underlying romance of the day and whether the reality of a wedding lives up to that fantasy event we hold in our hearts.

The institution of marriage actually pre-dates recorded history, but despite that it seems the “romance” part didn’t exist until medieval times. Before then – and in some cultures since then as well – a marriage was simply a business arrangement between two families.

I guess for me the romance of the day will be less about the myriad of traditions and superstitions surrounding the institution of marriage, and more about pledging my love for another person and committing to share my life with them, in front of family and friends. Will it live up to the fantasy in my head? I certainly hope so!

That said, I do have a clock with a big hand, and a hungry cat…and a shoe…

I’m interested to know what others think about romance and weddings. What, in your view, makes a wedding romantic – or not?

After the wedding, of course, comes the honeymoon, and my latest erotic releases are just the thing to put anyone in the mood – especially if you read them aloud to each other! Scroll down for an ADULT 18+ peek at new release transsexual romance, APHRODITE CALLING (GODS OF LOVE #2), and Best Book of 2011 nominee, PLATINUM PASSION (GODS OF LOVE#1):

She lifted her hips as he centered himself at her vaginal entrance. The flinch was instinctive; she couldn’t help it, and he paused. “I have enough cum in my balls to sink a ship. I have been wanting to try your body ever since I saw you, and the wait has had me leaking juice all evening. It will be a well-lubricated joining, I assure you.”

Her laugh was throaty. “Enough to sink a ship? That actually sounds a little scary.” She let out a squeak as he thrust with his groin and at the same time tightened his grip on her hips, compelling her downward.

The head of his cock was now inside her, and she panted with a mixture of aching pleasure and apprehension. It felt hot, and hard, yet slick at the same time. She wanted him deeper inside, and took a breath before sinking down without any further urging.

Full. Wet. Everything inside stretched so tight she was afraid to move more than a millimeter or two. But oh…my…God…it felt so good to have a real live man inside her, shifting now, slight movements that she could feel deep within her body. The ache was so deep and all consuming that she couldn’t even compare it to the clit orgasm she’d had earlier. This was real, and she was about to fuck as she’d always wanted to, as a woman, with a man who saw her. Really saw her. And it felt so right.

Angels versus Demons: Who’s Sexier?

In celebration of Leia Shaw and Carrie Ann Ryan‘s new paranormal romance releases in June and July, we’re participating in an angel and demon themed blog hop! (Click here to go to Leia and Carrie’s blog).
Leia’s book, Destiny Bewitched, features a sexy as hell (pun intended) demon named Geo, and Carrie’s, Dust of My Wings, hero is an angel named Shade.

Angel and Demon sexy storiesWe were asked to let readers know which we’d rather have to…uh…cuddle up with at night – angels or demons? And what are our favorite angel or demon books? Since we have four authors on this blog, each of us has a different opinion and a different book. Here’s what the Sexy Romance Stories authors had to say. We’re giving away a Sexy Romance Story ebook to one lucky commenter! (Good all over the world!)

Jennifer Lynne: Do I prefer an angel or a demon? Hmm, if we’re talking about real life then I vote for an angel, but when it comes to fiction and the most delectable romance hero a woman could wish for, then my vote almost always goes to the demon lover! There’s just something about a bad boy that really gets to me – maybe it’s the possibility of redemption through the love of a good woman. Maybe it’s the promise – or delicious threat – of violence just at the edge of all that passion. Whatever it is, I love reading about bad boy heroes, and most of the time I like writing about them, too. My heroes usually have a dark side. While I haven’t created an actual demon or angel as yet, I do have a Greek god or three on offer! My Gods of Love series that began with menage a trois erotic romance, Platinum Passion, continues with the just-released transsexual romance, Aphrodite Calling. This erotic novella features Himeros, an ancient Greek god of sexual desire who knows exactly how to answer the call of need in every mortal who asks. Here’s a brief snippet that illustrates the complex light/dark aspect of his nature:

“We do have a couple of onlookers.”

His soft words, murmured into her hair, had her thighs tightening involuntarily around him as the burning excitement grew. Who was watching? And what show did they want to see? Straight sex between a man and a woman, or sex between two people who both had a penis?

Are you wondering if I really had the op? If there aren’t actually two hard dicks here right now, hidden by my skirt, sliding up and down against each other and dampening my panties with all that leaking pre-cum?

Too bad.

A sudden flare of anger ignited inside of her toward the peeping Toms, whoever they were, and she dug one of her heels into the crease of his ass, rubbing it up and down with just enough pressure to elicit a moan of protest from Himeros.

She stopped. “Sorry.”

“Ah, but I enjoy the lick of pain, Gina.”

Roz Lee: Whether or not you believe actual angels and demons live among us, the concept is familiar. Demons are bad and angels are good. Demons influence us in dangerous way, and angels come along to guide us on a better path. Demons are destructive, and angels help us heal.

We’re all familiar with the sayings, the devil made me do it, and there was an angel on my shoulder. Most people don’t believe those in a literal sense, but refer to the battle of wills going on inside us on a daily basis. Sometimes it’s as simple as deciding to tell the cashier she gave you too much back in change or smiling at your good fortune and keeping your mouth shut. Other times, it’s deeper, darker.

In my current work in progress, Jason’s inner demons have served him well, giving him the drive and determination to overcome the odds and build a successful career in major league baseball. But on a personal level, those very same demons that make him such a good baseball player, manifest themselves through sexual needs Jason has long denied. With another failed relationship behind him, Jason is forced to confront his dark desires before they destroy him.

What does Jason need here? An angel, of course! He finds one in Carrie, a woman who understands and accepts his dark side. She brings light to the dark corners of Jason’s life, and through her he finds a way to express himself in a constructive way. She’s the angel he needs to balance the demon inside him. Their relationship isn’t without conflict, but with the help of his angel, Jason will finally put some demons to rest.

Look for Jason’s story, the second book in the Mustangs Baseball series, later this year. Here’s a snippet –

Jason took a few moments to get his head screwed on right as he watched his new sub through the glass. She’d followed his instructions to the letter. Wearing white lace panties and bra, she looked like an angel, minus the wings. He’d have to reward her before he took her to task for disobeying him the night before.

After tonight’s game, nothing would please him more than to give this angel an orgasm she’d never forget, then sink his cock into her heavenly heat. But that wasn’t going to happen. No orgasm for her, and the one he had planned for himself would be fun, but nowhere near as satisfying as he’d hoped. He reminded himself that he was in this to build a lasting relationship, and in the grand scheme of things, one more day wasn’t much to set the right tone.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Chellesie B. Dancer: Some people are mostly angels, and others are pure demons, but in my upcoming erotic novella “Restless,” free-spirited Cassie has both competing in her head. She’s had the same devoted husband for seven years.  They’ve lived in the same lovely house for six.  And she’s had the same practical career even longer. At thirty years old, Cassie is restless–there’s a hot wind blowing through her that just won’t be satisfied. Then her husband loses his job, his confidence, and his libido. Her inner demon grows stronger and Cassie indulges in some risky flirtations, but her inner angel keeps her mindful of her beloved husband. When a dark enigmatic stranger moves into their home, the devil inside makes her body burn for him. Can she stay cool-headed and loyal, or will she let the fire engulf her? Can her husband accept that his angel is equal parts devil? What happens if she gives in to both?
“You like to watch me, don’t you?”
Taken aback, he just nodded his head. This was the perfect opportunity to try her plan.
“Do you ever…imagine…that it’s you I’m with?”
Long pause. His shoulders were clenched so tight his neck disappeared.
She mentally kicked herself for going too far, but knew enough to keep her mouth shut.
“I don’t mess with married women.”
BINGO!  He was attracted to her and he’d practically admitted it. “Of course not, and I wouldn’t cheat on my husband…”
His shoulders relaxed, and he took a breath.
“Not even with a tempting hunk like you.” She lowered her eyelids seductively as she smiled.
Sharon Buchbinder: Women, especially strong women, struggle with how they are perceived by men. At times woman are demons, at other times angels. One of the earliest known she demons identified in Sumerian and Kabbalistic Judaism is the seductress and succubus, Lilith. The first wife of Adam, Lilith was his equal in every way. She had no desire to be bossed around by him, so she left Adam and Eden for more interesting company, male demons who hung out around the Red Sea. Apparently, the demons wrote on cave walls, “For a good time, call Lilith!” She coupled with them all and bore hordes of demon babies.
The flip side of the coin is the maternal, angelic being, also from the Kabbalistic literature, the Matronit. This powerful female figure was considered God’s wife. When Israel was threatened, she became a warrior goddess, one capable of riding blazing chariots and destroying armies to defend her chosen ones. But when the second Temple was destroyed, the Matronit grieved and left God to go off on her own until her nation repented and was restored to glory. In the interim, Lilith gives solace to God, because after all, he is a male with needs.
When I wrote Desire and Deception, I wanted to have a strong villainess, a man-eating woman, who also had a side the reader could empathize with. Isabel Ramirez is haunted by her duality–she is Lilith to some and the Matronit to others. She struggles with this duality until she finds a man who loves sees the angel hiding behind the demon within her. Here’s a snippet from DESIRE AND DECEPTION that depicts Isabel’s conflict between seductress and mother.
A hard slap landed on her ass with a cracking sound.
About fucking time he got it right. “Yes! Give me ten like that!” The noise of slaps blended with the scent of her arousal and his grunts with each smack. He rubbed his erection between her legs, touching her wet lips, pressing them apart. She shook her head and panted. “Not yet.” At last when the stinging crescendo hit the right peak, she shouted, “Now, Sean, now!”
He plunged deep inside her.
Her breath came in ragged bursts. “Harder.”
Sean complied with faster, deeper thrusts. Her thighs banged against the desk with each push. She pulled his hands around to her breasts, and placed them on her rigid nipples. “Pinch me.”
He twisted her nipples and thrust harder. She screamed, Sean groaned, shuddered, and fell against her back and hugged her close to him.
Isabel pushed him away. “Get off me.” She handed him a wad of tissues. “Clean me up, and make it snappy. I have to get home before my husband decides to fuck the nanny.”
Platinum Passion recommended by Chellesie B Dancer
What if you could choose between spending the night with your beloved husband, or a hunky sex god? If it were up to me, I’d chose both! Most of us, if we ever had such a choice, would hold fast to our one true love. But what if the hunky sex god chose both of you? IF you want to find out what would happen, you’ve got to read PLATINUM PASSION! After twenty years, Jeannie and Jake have a love that’s strong, but the spark between them is muffled by piles of everyday stress. Until their 20th wedding anniversary, when hot and hunky Pothos, the god of sexual yearning, saunters into their life. PLATINUM PASSION was a Best Book of 2011 nominee in GLBT Fantasy Romance at The Romance Reviews. An erotic novella, it’s just long enough to explore lots of possibilities on this one perfect night. Killer Kisses  recommended by Roz Lee
I’ve long been a fan of Sharon Buchbinder’s work, so when she compiled seven of her shorter works into a smorgasbord-like anthology – I was thrilled! KILLER KISSES is a wonderful collection of unique and individual works, surprisingly from the same author. Where many authors are one-trick ponies, unable to break out of the proverbial mold, Ms. Buchbinder isn’t one of them. With this collection, she showcases her many and varied writing talents across the contemporary romance genre. If you’re looking for something you can read in short bursts, this is the book for you, but don’t be surprised if you sit down to read one of the short stories and end up not putting it down until you’ve finished the entire collection. Ms. Buchbinder’s characters are rich and her story lines full of surprising depth.  Her writing style will pull you in and hold you captive from beginning to end.
Power Play recommended by Jennifer Lynne
I read this erotic romance soon after its release and it is a story that has stayed in my mind as one of my favorites. And that is saying something because believe me, I read a lot! So what was it about POWER PLAY that grabbed and held my attention above so many others in this genre? In her novel, Ms. Dancer does a beautiful job traversing that fine line between super-sexy and kink – so good a job in fact, that I went out and bought some almond oil after reading this sizzling story. Enough said! That enticing promise (or threat!) of light BDSM in my romance reading is a place that at times I love, and at others I am not so comfortable in, but the playful tone of Ms. Dancer’s story drew me in and held my interest throughout. The ambiguity of the term “power play” relating both to Liz and Sergio’s sexual activity and their respective places in the corporate world added an extra layer of interest and helped boost the eroticism brewing between these two characters. I will never look at almond oil – or my partner’s business ties – in the same way again. This book is a finalist in the RWA Passionate Plume awards (novella category) and in my opinion, deservedly so. If you like your romance sizzling hot with a hint of kink, this read is just perfect.
Sweet Carolina recommended by Sharon Buchbinder
Vrrrroom, vrrroom, ladies, start your engines with Roz Lee’s SWEET CAROLINA! When Caudell (Dell) Wayne gets suspended from NASCAR racing and loses his ride, the only thing he expects to do is sit in his lavish home, drink beer and brood over fulfilling his dead father’s prophecy that he would never live up to his arch enemy, Dickhead Warner. Unbeknownst to him, his childhood friend and gear head gal pal, Caroline Hawkins, has grown up and taken over her deceased dad’s racing team. She watches Dell’s demise from afar, first with dismay, then with a glimmer of hope for her deteriorating finances. If she can keep Madman Dell from killing himself and wrecking cars, maybe, just maybe, she can bring her family company back from the brink of financial ruin. When she shows up on his doorstep with the outrageous proposal that he should drive for her, she expects him to turn her down. Instead, he says yes and it’s not just the metal wheels on the concrete walls that spark. He’s an employee, untouchable, or so her brain says. Her body has other thoughts. He knows she’s the boss and he thinks she looks sexy in–and out–of greasy overalls. The fire suits won’t stop the flames that ignite between these two. Will he win the right races and find his soul and soul mate? Or will their relationship crash and burn on the sharp twists and turns of Roz Lee’s unexpected plot twists? I’m not giving you the answers, but I can tell you, I will never look at NASCAR races and racers the same way again after reading this book. Six erotic sentences – Pandora’s Gift by Jennifer Lynne
My Six Sentence excerpt this Sunday is from one of my favorite romances. Pandora’s Gift is the erotic story of Flint, a war veteran who has seen too much, and Pandora, the woman who is destined to bring him out of the darkness towards hope:
Being here with her, a woman he didn’t know and was unlikely to see again after tonight, he felt as if she’d invaded his mind and his heart. Like tendrils of light, he could feel her coiling inside him, searching out the dark places, banishing them. The urge to let go, to let it all out, became almost overwhelming.
One hand had somehow wound itself further into her hair, and as if to get a grip on reality he pulled it, hard, pinning her head against the couch. She looked up at him, seemingly mute, but damned if he couldn’t hear her voice again inside his head.
Not possible.
Sexual Freedom in Greek Mythology
One of the most interesting aspects of the research into Greek mythology for my Gods of Love erotic romance series, has been the discovery  that the ancient Greeks did not define sexual orientation or behavior by gender. Rather, they looked at sex from a Dom/sub point of view. One person as the dominant penetrator, and the other as the submissive penetrated, regardless of gender.
Gender in fact, became almost irrelevant as sex and sexual activity did not come attached with the social “labels” that we use today – gay, lesbian or transgender, for example.
The lack of moral judgement on sexual activity, and the growth of mythologies around particular gods and goddesses as patrons of different types of love, was extremely appealing to me as an erotic romance author developing ideas for a GLBT themed trilogy that would place ancient Greek gods into a modern day setting.
Shades of…hmm, dare I say it? Yep! Grey, rather than black and white. The idea of almost infinite possibilities for love and desire, without the moral labels, intrigues me. And I’m wondering if maybe we should be taking some lessons from ancient history?
In my first story in the Gods of Love trilogy, Platinum Passion, I introduced Pothos, god of sexual yearning and one of the erotes (aspects of Eros and the children of Aphrodite, goddess of love and sexuality). Pothos visits Jake and Jeannie on the night of their twentieth wedding anniversary to fulfill Jake’s wish to experience bisexual love and to help Jeannie regain the sexual spark that their long-term marriage has been missing.
Aphrodite Calling (Gods of Love #2), is about Himeros, god of sexual desire and brother to Pothos. He responds to the call from Gina, a post-surgery, male to female transsexual, whose desire to be accepted as a woman touches Himeros like no other call before.
The third story in this trilogy, tentatively titled Sex Club Secrets, will be about Anteros, god of requited/unrequited love, who has settled into modern life as the owner of a sex club. Anteros is a naughty boy at heart, and he has a whole lot of fun with two bisexual friends who need the blinkers removed in order to see the truth directly in front of them.
Each of these stories is a stand-alone read, but with the common theme of the erotes running as a thread throughout them all. The freedom I’ve felt in writing these varied storylines has come directly from my research, and from my discovery that not everyone throughout history has defined sexual orientation or gender in the same way that we do today.
What do you think? Can we learn something from those ancient Greeks? Do you enjoy a touch of mythology in your erotic romance, and if so, what are your favorite mythologies/myths?
Here’s a short snippet from Platinum Passion (Gods of Love #1)– a Best Book of 2011 nominee in GLBT Fantasy Romance at The Romance Reviews. It is available for only 99 cents at Amazon, All Romance ebooks and Barnes & Noble:
“Are you ready again, Jake?” Pothos asked, and he nodded.
“Yeah.” His voice was hoarse.
“Jake.” Jeannie spoke his name again, but this time with understanding. She could probably read the rampant desire in his face. Her lips parted and she asked hesitantly, “Who do you want?”
He reached for her beneath the water, felt the curve of her hip and pulled her close. She gasped when she came into contact with his cock. Hell, he felt like gasping himself, he was so ready. “I want you, Jeannie,” he said. Then he looked over his shoulder. “And I want you, Pothos. I want you to fuck me, hard, while I make love with Jeannie.”
He didn’t wait for a response from either of them, confident that the ache of desire he felt was about to be amplified by Pothos. However their new lover did it, Jake didn’t care. He just knew that this night was like no other he’d ever experienced, and the heady lust that filled his nostrils had just gotten stronger as Pothos’ eyes flashed bright and his wife let out a faint moan and shifted impatiently against him. He lifted Jeannie, taking her weight easily with the help of the water’s buoyancy, and settled her warm pussy onto his dick. She immediately wrapped her legs around his waist and her arms around his neck and clung like a limpet while she kissed him. His hands kneaded the rounded cheeks of her buttocks and he pushed up into her hot center, taking her resulting gasp into him as they continued to kiss, feeling the tip of his cock connect with her body in that deep, dark place inside her.
He broke off the kiss. “You’re mine.” He thrust again, not sure why he felt he had to stake his claim, and she let out a strangled cry.
“Always, Jake.”
Then he felt the hardness of a male body up against his back, pressing into his thighs, and he buried his face in Jeannie’s golden hair, almost overwhelmed with a mixture of fear and excitement at the realization of what was coming.
“And you’re mine, Jake,” Pothos said. “You and Jeannie. Mine.”
Here is a short snippet from my upcoming release, Aphrodite Calling (Gods of Love #2):
She felt the zipper on the back of her dress begin to wend its way down her spine, and her breath caught when the warmth of a fingertip followed in its wake, urging the edges of her dress to slither away more easily until the material pooled at her hips. Then his lips were against her skin, branding her with heat, just at that dip where her neck melted into shoulder.
She let out a shuddering breath, one she hadn’t even known she was holding, and arched her head to one side to allow him better access. So hard to think straight, when his hands were spanning her waist like that, caressing the edge of her ribs. When his lips and tongue were doing the most incredible things up the delicate line of her neck to nuzzle in such an intimate manner at her earlobe.
“Himeros,” she whispered, as her knees threatened to buckle at the heat and the heaviness between her legs. And it felt different, this time, from what she remembered of past encounters. It wasn’t just centred in her groin, that familiar feeling of an impending explosion. It was her pussy that was hot and heavy, and aching to be stroked, yes, but she also felt the ache throughout her whole body, like a river of spreading warmth. She hadn’t realized it could feel this…damn…good
She reached back to find his hips, pull him closer in against her, wanting to share this newfound sensation of desire.
“I do desire you,” he growled in her ear. “So much.”
“I know,” she said, emboldened by these new feelings, wiggling her ass against the rock-hard core of him. “I can feel how much you want it. Me.”
She turned in his arms then, and she caught the momentary grin that lit his features before his mouth swept down to claim hers. And if she’d thought the sensations before were unique, they were as nothing to the onslaught that swept through her when his lips and tongue forced their way in to brand her with his essence. The power behind his kiss was so intense she couldn’t even respond, other than to let out a moan that he swallowed then continued on.
Demanding more.
Dominating.
