Peter’s Rules – or how to solve the world’s problems with a list!

I know these have done the rounds before, but I found them again on my computer today and re read them.

I love number 16…but several of them resonate with me.

I hope everyone has a great week!

Peter’s Rules

1) If anything can go wrong, Fix It! (To hell with Murphy.)

2) When given a choice, Take Both!

3) Multiple projects lead to multiple successes.

4) Start at the top and work your way up.

5) Do it by the book…but be the author!

6) When forced to compromise, ask for more.

7) If you can’t beat them, join them–then beat them!

8) If it’s worth doing it’s got to be done right now!

9) If you can’t win, change the rules.

10) If you can’t change the rules, then ignore them.

11) Perfection is not optional.

12) When faced without a challenge, make one.

13) ‘No’ simply means begin again at one higher level.

14) Don’t walk when you can run.

15) Bureaucracy is a challenge to be conquered with a righteous attitude, a tolerance for stupidity, and a bulldozer when necessary.

16) When in doubt: Think!

17) Patience is a virtue, but persistence to the point of success is a blessing.

18) The squeaky wheel gets replaced.

19) The faster you move, the slower time passes, the longer you live.

What Are You Watching?

Hello, y’all. This is Kiru, one of the newbies here at Sexy Romance Stories. It’s great to be part of this wonderful group of authors. I was introduced to the rest of the group via Jennifer Lynne whom I met online last year through our mutual book publisher Breathless Press.

As this is my first post here as a team member, I thought I’d do a quick get-to-know-Kiru post and share some of the TV shows I love watching. So here goes.

I’m the first in a family of five siblings. Although I was born in Nigeria, I currently live in the United Kingdom. I’m married with three kids—my youngest is just 9 weeks old. Yep, there’s a new baby in this house.  🙂

So you should already know, I write sexy romance. My stories always have an African link, either set in Africa and/or with African characters. You can check out my website to find out more about my books.

It goes without saying that I love reading. Mostly romance novels. But I also read most other fiction, fantasy, historical and thrillers especially.

One genre I don’t enjoy reading is Horror fiction. I read Stephen King, Dean Koontz, and Anne Rice in my early 20s. I don’t read similar stuff anymore. Neither do I watch the movies. Scaring myself to death with nightmares isn’t fun. LOL

Talking about movies, I generally don’t watch a lot these days. In fact, I haven’t been to a cinema to see an adult movie for almost ten years, although, I take the kids to watch children’s films.

The only time I get to watch TV is when I’m feeding baby, so I use it to catch up on my favourite movies or shows. For movies I watch action/thrillers (all action heroes/heroines kicking ass and blowing things up? Yeah! 🙂 ), sci-fi and of course, romance.

These are my favourite TV shows at the moment:

NCIS Los Angeles (LL Cool J is hot as ex-Navy SEAL Sam Hanna.)

Hawaii 5-0 (Alex O’Loughlin plays sexy Lt Commander Steve McGarrett.)

Justified (Timothy Olyphant plays tough but softly spoke deputy US marshal Raylan Givens. He makes a Stetson look cool.)

Jacob’s Cross is a TV drama series about powerful oil magnates battling for Africa’s rich off-shore oil resources. Set in both South Africa and Nigeria, the story centres around businessman Jacob Makhubu Abayomi and his quest to build the next great African empire. Click the link below to watch the trailer.

And last but not least, Adams Apples is a mini-series set in the hustle and bustle of the city of Accra and its suburbs with glimpses of the exciting metropolis of London. It follows the lives of the four “Adams” Ghanaian women as they work through domestic struggles, family life and personal battles to achieve success and happiness in a fast changing 21st century Ghana.

So tell me what do you like to watch on TV or at the movies?

Want a sexy Irish Dom? Try KINKY BET by Maggie Nash

KINKY BET by Maggie Nash, reviewed by Jennifer Lynne

I’ve mentioned before that I am very choosy when it comes to romance with a BDSM theme. In my opinion not every author in this genre is able to differentiate between erotic kinky pleasure and plain old abuse.

Luckily I found KINKY BET by Aussie author Maggie Nash, a highly sensual BDSM story that falls clearly into the sexy pleasure category – and with a healthy dose of quirky fun adding even more enjoyment to the mix. This story about a bet between friends and the resultant sexual liaison between Erica and her delicious Dom kept me interested from the very first page.

There’s just something about a sexy Irishman with a thick brogue accent, don’t you think?

Conal had me on side from the moment he entered the room and took control at the BDSM retreat where Erica has been sent as punishment for losing the bet.

Erica’s need to find a place where she can feel “normal” at last, is an emotion that I believe resonates with many readers, regardless of whether or not we are into the BDSM scene. The heroine’s transition into “Enya” seemed natural and I love that her desire to be dominated was on her terms and no one else’s:

“I take it you enjoyed your first lesson, Enya.”

I’m allowed to answer him, aren’t I? He asked me a question, so I guess it’s okay. “It would have been better if I’d had an orgasm.”

His eyebrow lifted.

Oh shit. Was she meant to have kept quiet? Was it a rhetorical question? Oh what the heck? “It would have been better if I’d had an orgasm—Sir!”

Conal threw back his head and laughed loudly.

The sense of humour that permeated this story really helped me connect with the two main characters and I found myself rooting for their relationship as the story progressed.

Overall a thoroughly enjoyable, romantic and highly erotic read. I give KINKY BET 5 stars.

Have you ever participated in a kinky bet? Whether you won or lost the bet, we’d love you to share the sexy details right here!

Who knew losing a bet could be this much fun?

Erica Nielsen agreed to a bet with her best friend, but she never imagined losing would involve a weekend of punishment at Dangerous Liaisons, a BSDM retreat. But was it really punishment being trained by a sexy Irishman who takes her on a sexual journey of a lifetime?

Conal Brennan agrees to help a young woman find her submissive nature. He always enjoys being the one in control, but one look at the Nordic blonde he calls ‘Fire girl’ and he’s not sure who’s controlling whom.

Reader Advisory: This book contains scenes of light BDSM, spanking, bondage, voyeurism, group sex, public sex, M/F/M, some F/F action and a whole lot of kink!

RT Booklovers Convention Roundup

I’ve just returned from the RT Booklovers Convention in Kansas City. The annual event attracts around two-thousand romance readers, writers, bloggers, reviewers, and industry professionals, throwing them all together in one place with plenty of opportunity for them all to interact. There are workshops and events for everyone, but not exclusive to anyone. There are learning opportunities, games, social events, and parties galore, all under one roof.

It’s not unusual to find yourself in the elevator with a couple of NYT Bestselling authors or a group of fans dressed in their finest Steampunk regalia. Friends are made instantly over a common love of the romance genre. Standing in line at the one small restaurant in the hotel, having misplaced my roomie, I was on my own. No problem. The next person in line turned out to be the lovely Lynnette Austin. We shared a table and conversation over lunch, a brief moment of quiet in our hectic day. One morning at breakfast, Larry Kirshbaum, the chief of Amazon Publishing, was at the table next to myself and my roomie, Felice Fox.

It was wonderful to reconnect with some author friends I rarely get to see, Eden Bradley/Eve Berlin, Jennifer Probst, and Tara Lain, to name a few.

Then there are the wonderful readers who devour everything we writers can come up with. A few of my favorites were Gloria from Oklahoma City, Mary, Linda and Anne from Rhode Island and Susan from Pennsylvania.

Post-conference, my vocal chords are strained and my smile muscles and feet aching, but I’m already looking forward to next year when I get to do it all over again. If you haven’t experienced one of these conventions, you’re truly missing out on a special experience. Next year the RT Booklovers convention will be held in New Orleans. I look forward to seeing you there. Laissez les bon temps rouler!

Night Encounters with Lisa Carlisle

Visiting us today is author Lisa Carlisle, who writes paranormal erotic romance. Welcome Lisa!

Hi, thanks for having me. I’m here to talk about romance series. What is it about a series that we find difficult to resist? Each book ends leaving us wanting more. What happens next with the characters? Or who will be the characters in the next part of the series? I know I’m addicted to several series. What about you?

I write an erotic paranormal romance series with Ellora’s Cave called Underground Encounters and even as I’m writing them, I love wondering what’s going to happen next. When I’m working on a story, ideas come to me on the characters or future ideas for the series and it’s difficult not to run off and start the new story!

My series includes a variety of supernatural characters—vampires, shapeshifters, gargoyles, or humans with supernatural abilities—and I love the conflict that arises from their differences. No matter what type of character, one theme seems to resonate—they feel alone in the world, and perhaps unlovable. Yet when they meet their right someone, well, you can guess what happens next!

Ellora’s Cave just released an anthology called Night Encounters, which contains the first two books in my Underground Encounters series:
Smoldering Nights, an erotic vampire novella
Fiery Nights, an erotic paranormal romance

Night Encounters: “Smoldering Nights” By Lisa Carlisle

Nike loves visiting the goth club Vamps—she can exchange her firefighter uniform for a slinky fantasy outfit. There she runs into the man she’d been admiring from afar at a rock-climbing gym. He’s been the star of all her sexual fantasies, so is it any wonder they end up in his private room upstairs? Just when things begin to heat up, Michel’s enemies appear.

Michel isn’t an ordinary mortal. And someone from his past is on the hunt for vengeance. Michel and Nike are forced to run and hide out in a coastal cottage in Maine. They can’t resist their attraction and spend the nights exploring each other’s bodies while trying to sort out how they feel. Can they overcome their differences while evading the predators chasing them?

Author Bio

I gravitate toward stories with dark, brooding, isolated characters (think Heathcliff, Dracula, Darth Vader, and Severus Snape) and tough, independent, caring heroines. My reading tastes very widely, though, and I’ll read almost anything–especially paranormal romance, mysteries, and non-fiction on any new topic of interest.

When I was younger, I served in the Marine Corps and lived in Parris Island, the California desert, and Okinawa, Japan. Then I backpacked alone around the US and Europe and lived in Paris, France. These experiences have provided me enough settings and characters for a lifetime of writing. Currently, I live in the Boston area with my fantastic, supportive husband and two kids.

I love to stay in touch with readers. Visit More books in the series are coming as well as a military romance. Follow me to stay tuned!
